VOTE!

We know there’s a lot going on in the world, but if there were ever a time to think locally, this is it, Preservers!

Because the incoming Lafayette City Council will serve for the next two years, Tuesday’s  election could very well determine what happens with the property at 119th and Baseline.

There are four city council seats up for grabs in the election (plus another seat that’s open due to the resignation of JD Mangat, which will be filled by an application process and council vote after the election).

We only need a majority of the city council—four councilors—to vote for an open space acquisition and against annexation of the property at 119th and Baseline for development. You can elect those councilors on Tuesday.

Meaning that more than ever, your vote matters! In fact, in the last election, less than 100 votes decided who was elected to council and who wasn’t.

If you haven’t turned in your ballot yet, no worries. The mailing deadline has passed, but you’ve got until Tuesday at 7 p.m. to drop your ballot in the ballot boxes at the Lafayette Public Library, 755 W. Baseline Road, or the Southeast Community Hub at 1755 S. Public Road.

To help you make your decision about the candidates that most share your values, we’ve done a ton of research. Here’s a little light reading for your weekend.

Profiles of each candidate. You can read about Luke Arrington, Kyle Beaulieu, Josh Beryl, Adam Gianola and Crystal Gallegos here. And profiles of Rob Glenn, Annmarie Jensen, Eric Ryant, Saul Tapia Vega and Mike Watson are here.

Candidate thoughts on open space. We asked each council candidate three questions about open space. You can read what they (minus Luke Arrington, who didn’t respond to our questions) said here.

Candidate opinions on annexation. Here’s what each candidate said in response to a question  at a candidate forum about their thoughts on annexation of the properties at 119th and Baseline and Arapahoe and Hwy. 287.

Thanks, as always, for your commitment—and your vote!— to keep Lafayette’s eastern gateway a rural haven for centuries to come.
